Join us as we celebrate Drexel's applicants for the 2021 Marshall Scholarship – Afrah Howlader and Emma Dietz!

The Marshall Scholarship recognizes high achieving undergraduates across the U.S., supporting graduate education in any field at any UK university for up to fifty scholars a year. These Drexel students worked tirelessly through multiple application drafts and an internal application review process in order to be endorsed by the university, a requirement to apply for the scholarship. We congratulate them on their hard work so far and wish them the best of luck in the rest of the selection process!

Afrah Howlader is a senior in the Dornsife School of Public Health planning to pursue graduate school after graduating from Drexel. Her research interests include international development, disaster management, and occupational health. Ultimately, Afrah would like to work in improving the international humanitarian response to natural disasters in the Global South. She was a 2018 Dornsife Global Development Scholar to Eswatini and is currently a Drexel Community Scholar, serving at HIAS Pennsylvania. Afrah is also a Senior Class Representative in the Undergraduate Student Government Association.

Emma Dietz is a senior in Product Design. Her home town is Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is great for biking around and swimming in the many lakes in the summer and snow tubing in the winter. She came to Drexel to merge her creative and technical abilities and wants to continue to learn the broad applications that the field of design can have through the Global Innovation Design program at the Royal College of Art. She also designs and sews clothing for a fashion brand called Grant Blvd, and interns at a solar energy company called Grouphug; both are very involved in solving the sustainability issues that our generation faces. Making things is Emma's passion, and she uses her value as a creator as a source for good.

The Marshall Scholarship is a highly prestigious national program that supports the graduate education at any UK university in any field. Funds cover university fees, living expenses, an annual book allowance, thesis grant, research and travel grants, and costs of travel between the US and UK.
